Americanism Contest Winners 2022

The Goochland American Legion Family of Post 215 hosted the Americanism Essay Contest winners at their meeting. In attendance were 12 of the 15 winners, their extended families, Dr. Raley Goochland School Superintendent and teachers Elizabeth Ferguson and Suzanne Taylor. The question answered in the essays was “How can we support families who provide care to their veterans?" Students from grades 3 through 8 had innovative and common-sense ideas; from baking them cookies, cleaning their houses to taking them on picnics. Overwhelming was the theme that the veterans took care of us through their service and now we should help their families take care of them. Winners read their essays to a packed crowd and received their awards from Shirley Bonovitch, the Auxiliary’s Americanism Chair.
